WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN COMPARING ESTIMATES
Always compare like-for-like quotes with the exact specification of work to be undertaken, also the materials and manufacturers to be used. Cheaper materials can be very tempting but are often a false economy needing extra coats/more working time and are more than often of lesser quality and durability, in the long run you'll end up paying for the work to be repeated sooner.
I'M UNSURE ON COLOURS, DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE
Use swatches to narrow down choices but don't rely on them for the final decision. Use test pots on a piece of lining paper stuck to the wall in several places around the room, and view them over a period of days in different lighting conditions. We can supply and apply samples prior to commencement of accepted works, we also provide a color scheme service whereby color combinations are provided depending on your preference to shades, tones or even holidays.
I HAVE SOME EXTERIOR WORK, WHEN CAN YOU FIT ME IN
It is not ideal to begin exterior decoration during Autumn/Winter months, drying time and finishes are affected due to weather conditions and cold temperatures, also moisture content in timber and other substrates severely affect a coatings performance. Products are available for out of season decoration but these are far from ideal. We are however happy to provide a quote for work to be completed the following Spring/Summer.

We will get back to you as soon as possible and arrange a convenient time to view the property. Once the job has been assessed you can expect a detailed estimate through the post within 48 hours.
The following is designed to give you an idea of what to expect from point of contact to completion of the work
(1) Initial contact is made to Stephen Dutton Painting & Decorating Services by the customer.
(2) Brief details regarding the work and your contact details will be taken, a visit will be arranged at your convenience.
(3) During the visit, details of the proposed work will be taken; professional advice and recommendations will be given to you regarding suitable materials.
(4) A written Estimate will be submitted, this will include a detailed specification of the work to be carried out as per your instructions, paint materials and labour costs.
(5) On your approval of the Estimate an approximate start date will be discussed and given, prior to commencement contact will be made to confirm this date and further discuss colours and choice of wall coverings ect.
(6) Work will begin; any unexpected, additional work or materials essential to the completion of the work will be discussed and quoted for, prior to commencement.
(7) Once work is completed and you are totally satisfied with our work, an invoice will be submitted.
(8) All our Estimates are free of charge with no obligation to you except for an insurance claim where there will be a minimum charge of £25 ( Depending on distance ) for the Estimate to be Prepared, fully refundable if the work is awarded to us.
So whether its just time to freshen up your décor or you are forced into major repair works requiring an insurance claim, you can always call us;
Choosing a good Painter and Decorator you can trust
Cheapest is not always best as many people have found to their cost, ask the decorator what materials he will be using, cheapest usually means inferior materials will be used, it pays to shop around to find a reputable decorator who will give you an agreed price for the work to be done.
